Codex
Last updated: February 2026
So far I've been using the Codex desktop app for Mac.
✅
The Good
- •Codex works great. Overall it's at least as effective at the tasks I've tried as Claude Code.
- •I like the file organization on the left side that lets me easily move between project files.
- •I used the hidden skill in the Super Bowl ad to get some merch (hat, keychain, stickers). I love an easter egg, and I love merch, so I am giving Codex points for this (actual impact on my brand affinity. Good job Codex team).
🤔
Ok
- •I would like if each of the tabs had some color coding so that I could easily tell which project I am in. I still sometimes write a prompt and then realize I'm in the wrong project.
⚠️
The Bad
- •My main complaint with all OpenAI products is that the volume of text I get back for every prompt is way too much. Not just too many words, but too many short bullets, spaces between lines, etc. I would guess this is just a personal preference, but I like to be able to scan the response before starting to read it, and this is legitimately frustrating (similar products tend to provide more compact answers).
- •Codex seems a little less agentic than Claude Code. When I ask Codex to "update XYZ page" it asks me how to find that page, whereas Claude Code usually just figures it out.
